Sievert Larsson’s professional journey, from programming in Sweden to banking in Cyprus, has been both diverse and adventurous, with charitable endeavours in Thailand also playing a significant role. Mr Larsson, the founder of Ancoria Bank, shares insights into his career and philanthropic efforts in an interview with Gold magazine.
Beginning as a programmer in a Swedish ball bearing factory in 1962, Mr Larsson found excitement in working with computers, despite the unfamiliarity of the technology at the time. He later transitioned into entrepreneurship, co-founding several successful companies with his business partner Roger Akelius. This included ventures in finance and property, as well as the establishment of Alpha Insurance in Cyprus, which eventually evolved into Ancoria Insurance.
Sievert Larsson’s philanthropic journey began in 1965 when he encountered Peter Robinson’s work supporting underprivileged youth in Thailand. This inspired him to contribute to Robinson’s efforts, eventually leading to the establishment of the SET Foundation. Later, in 2007, Mr Larsson founded the Sievert Larsson Scholarship Foundation, aiming to support promising students from disadvantaged backgrounds in Thailand and Cyprus.
In a remarkable act of philanthropy, Sievert Larsson donated all his shares in Ancoria Insurance to the Foundation, ensuring that its dividends would fund its educational initiatives. The Foundation has since expanded its efforts to Cyprus, providing scholarships to deserving students.
Reflecting on his business ventures, Mr Larsson emphasizes in the interview the importance of transparency, integrity, and hard work. He advocates for a management style that empowers employees and fosters initiative, drawing from his experiences in both Sweden and Cyprus. Despite being 72, Mr Larsson remains actively involved in his projects, demonstrating a commitment to his endeavours and a reluctance to retire.
Ancoria Bank, Sievert Larsson’s latest venture, aims to provide personalized financial services to individuals and small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs), with a focus on promoting entrepreneurial spirit and supporting economic growth in Cyprus.
